Friends of Darwen Cemetery had a good day at Darwen Gala. Lots of people visited our stand and showed interest in all the work we are trying to do with the Council in order to improve the condition of the old cemetery. The children had a chance to win a lollipop and a go in the lucky dip tub by erecting grave stones on a replica of the old cemetery, there was also a tombola and a chance to win a meal for two kindly donated by Whitehall Hotel. We had a poster on display showing details of the first burial in the cemetery - Richard Hurst Eccles of Redearth Mount, died 31st May 1861 aged 15 months, buried 2nd June 1861. August 2010
